Midland Valley’s Student Structural Prize 2010 - Koen Van Noten

Koen Van Noten from the Department of Earth & Environmental Sciences at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium has been awarded the second prize in the Post-gradruate category of the Midland Valley’s Student Structural Prize 2010 with his paper on tectonic inversion in the High Ardenne slate belt (Van Noten, K., Muchez, P. & Sintubin, M. 2011. Stress-state evolution of the brittle upper crust during compressional tectonic inversion as defined by successive quartz vein-types (High-Ardenne slate belt, Germany). Journal of the Geological Society, London 168(2), 407-422. doi: 10.1144/0016-76492010-112). He showed great skill in integrating ideas and analysing complex systems.  Critically for this competition his enthusiasm and commitment came across in his work.
