HighLand2006
Environmental change, geomorphic processes, land degradation and rehabilitation in tropical and subtropical highlands
The international symposium ‘HighLand2006’, held in Mekelle (Ethiopia), from 21 to 25 September 2006, was the second time that Ethiopia could host a major international scientific event on geomorphological processes. HighLand2006 created a forum for those conducting research on the impacts of environmental change on geomorphic processes and land degradation in the East African Highlands as well as in similar regions around the globe.
Discussions of results and exchange of experiences during indoor sessions as well as field excursions resulted in a series of scientific papers. These can be consulted in two special issues of the journals Catena and Soil & Tillage Research:
- Nyssen, J., Poesen, J., Haregeweyn, N. and Parsons, T. 2008. Environmental change, geomorphic processes and land degradation in tropical highlands. Catena Special Issue, Proc. international symposium ‘HighLand 2006’, Mekelle (Ethiopia), 21 to 25 September 2006, Catena 75(1):1-127.
